Multi-Purpose Sensory Rooms
Check out our past sensory room projects:
Neurodiverse children may struggle to effectively process sensory information and may perceive sensation differently. There are many therapy tools and items used to help children on the autism spectrum with sensory processing, so they can function more independently in their everyday lives.
A sensory room may have various kinds of therapy swings, trampolines, ball pits, crash pads, barrels, tunnels, mats, rock walls, ladders, ramps…the list goes on. Sensory rooms can also have high-tech lighting and fiber optics, projectors, water beds, bubble tubes, and wall panels.
The purpose of these sensory rooms is to provide a relaxed atmosphere, where the person is surrounded by pleasant sensations (unique tactile experiences, relaxing aromas, interesting light effects). Sensory rooms can also provide a sanctuary for escaping sensory overload, a reward for good behaviour, a tool for self-calming, or even a therapeutic space for building skills.
While all these things are absolutely wonderful and incredibly therapeutic, they come with a price tag that is often outside a family’s budget.
For Little Monkeys™ Charity is committed to fundraising and donating sensory rooms to families with neurodiverse children. We will be working with other experts in the field, who understand the needs of neurodiverse children, to ensure the space is multi-purpose and provides not only a calming place to self-regulate, but also a space to practice and build other skills.
We will be posting about our fundraising initiatives and sharing updates on our sensory room projects on Instagram @forlittlemonkeyscharity. Be sure to follow so that you don’t miss the application submission period if you’re interested in applying for your own family, or on behalf of another.
